Hi, everyone!
My name is Destin'e Bailey, I’m the creator, writer, and director of Our World. A groundbreaking comedy-drama series that dives into the lives, romance, and friendships of Black masculine-presenting lesbian women. Inspired by iconic shows like Living Single, Girlfriends, and Insecure, Our World is a heartfelt and authentic celebration of LGBTQ+ voices and experiences—without the usual tropes and stereotypes.
I’ve poured my passion into this project because I believe representation matters. As a masculine-presenting lesbian myself, I’ve rarely seen stories that reflect my community’s diversity, struggles, and triumphs. This pilot isn’t just entertainment; it’s a movement! Showing the world that lesbians, especially Black lesbians; are multifaceted, vibrant, and relatable.
We’re raising funds to bring this vision to life and to create a professional, polished pilot episode. The pilot script is complete, we have our cast, and we have a talented team of writers, producers, and directors ready to make this happen. However, independent filmmaking requires resources—from securing equipment to paying cast and crew, scouting locations in Dallas, Texas, and surrounding cities, and ensuring our production values shine.
With your support, we aim to finish production before the summer of 2025 and share this story with the world. Ultimately, our dream is to release the pilot independently and shop Our World to networks for a full series. Together, we can push for meaningful representation in media and create a space for untold stories to thrive.
Join us in making Our World a reality. Thank you for your support!
Risks and challenges
Creating a high-quality TV pilot is an ambitious and complex process, especially for an independent production like Our World. While our team is dedicated and passionate, we want to be transparent about the potential challenges we might face and how we plan to overcome them: Budget Constraints Producing a professional-grade pilot requires significant financial resources, including equipment, location rentals, and fair pay for cast and crew. As an independently funded project, we’re relying heavily on this Kickstarter campaign to cover these costs. If we don’t reach our funding goal, we will explore additional funding avenues such as sponsorships, partnerships, and other grants. Time and Scheduling Conflicts Coordinating schedules for our cast, crew, and production team can be tricky, especially when working with a limited budget. To mitigate this, we’ve built a detailed production timeline and contingency plans to ensure we stay on track. Flexibility and open communication will be key in keeping everyone aligned. First-Time Filmmaker Challenges As a first-time creator, I understand that there’s a learning curve to bringing this vision to life. To overcome this, I’ve surrounded myself with experienced team members, including my co-writers, producers, and directors, who bring their expertise to the table. I’m also committed to seeking mentorship and guidance from industry professionals throughout the process. Post-Production and Distribution Once the pilot is filmed, the work isn’t over. Post-production requires skilled editing, sound design, and finalizing the project to meet industry standards. We’ve already identified post-production partners and budgeted for these steps to ensure the pilot looks and sounds professional. For distribution, we plan to start with independent releases and build momentum while pitching the show to networks. Despite these challenges, our passion for Our World keeps us focused and determined. We’re committed to delivering an authentic and inspiring pilot that tells our community’s story with care and creativity. With your support, we’re confident that we can navigate these hurdles and bring Our World to life!
